Church at Mërtish

The monument is best and more easily accessible from a little, unpaved road at the left side of the school of Fier-Seman. One needs to leave the car at the foot of the cliff. Then, on foot, one turns right, on the railroad and enters at the first opening, through some blackberry bushes. This is the most difficult part, because then there is a path leading to the very spot of the church. The church is rumoured to celebrate in the name of St George. On account of some similarities in the masonry of the Prothesis apse with the church of St Nicholas at Perhondi, Berat and certain construction phases of the churches of Vlacherna and Archangel Michael in Berat, the church could be dated in the 11th century. The spot on the hill also rewards the viewer with a beautiful view of the region. A monument and spot worthy of the adventure to reach it.
