Hotel Sopoti

I recently stayed here for 5 nights and it was quite an experience!! Pros: - Original hotel built in 1902 - Excellent location in the old city - Balcony with castle view and morning sun - Peaceful and tranquil place very quiet - Cleaning lady is nice and polite - Cheap room €8.50 (1,000 Lek) a night Cons: - Abandoned hotel no other guests - No heating in there gets cold at night - Dirty old blankets never been washed - Shared bathroom with minimal hygiene - No water in the taps or shower frequently - Weird manager 'Shemi' made me feel uncomfortable, complained I was using too much water and shouted through the door when he was drunk to check if I was in the room every night and rushed me on check out, he is a horrible man unlike most people I met in Albania ...

Unforgettable memories and a return to the past. I recommend to everyone who is feeling familiar to this style. :) we visit this place in 2009.

It's a clean bed in a derelict house. Filthy floor. Shower water pressure terrible so it can't be used. Owner keeps bar next door. When drunk wants to negotiate the room rate into Lek as Euro not doing well. I checked out leaving a euro for the shower. Over priced as well ....better place up the road

Really falling apart. Cheap, of course (that's why you're looking at this place admit it), but really falling apart. Cold rooms with peeling paint. Bathrooms admittedly clean but that was when nobody else was staying in the hotel apart from me. If I was going to back to Gjirokastra I'd pick elsewhere. Shamsi is a wonderful man, though (the waiter cum host who runs the bar next door). We had some good conversations. Just wish he was in charge of a better establishment!

I spent some nice days and nights here. The house is old, the oldest hotel in town, as the gentleman from the bar next door told me. Equipment and comfort are dissolved and taken to a completely different level, an almost mystical experience of a bygone world. Lingering in this strange atmosphere is the charm that finds its consistent counterpart when you step outside the door. And as for the pitiful condition of the house, I found more intimacy and tranquility here than in any backpacker hostel that sinks into its modern chaos and leaves no room for retreat and privacy. (Note: booked in summer 2017 for 9 € per night)
