Pilgrimage Church of St. Mary on the Green Waasen Construction of the chapel Maria on the green Waasen was the year 1450. The church became Reformation of Luther until 1600 Counter-Reformation, meanwhile Protestant. 1717 simple consecration of sacred building and the associated permission to celebrate services at a portable altar. 1813 Removal of the old tower and construction of the current 45 meter high tower. New bells were raised again in 1948 and 1958 (877, 530, 350, 221 and 116kg). The baroque church portal carries the coats of arms of the families Hatzfeld and Schönborn which refer to the donors. By type, it is a so-called pilaster church. Between these are eight chapels which replace the former aisles. The high altar (1728) is determined by the symbolism of the Trinity. God the Father as a young and powerful demiurge, as the creator of the world. Then the triangle as gloriole of perfection and that the scepter replacing the compass as a sign of the dominion over the universe which is represented as a blue globe. Including the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Jesus Christ is portrayed as a child, in the arms of Mary, dressed as a queen, crowned and sceptered in a spread red cloak on a silver crescent moon. But Mary, as well as the four saints in the priest choir, may be taken from the older church. The roof of the pulpit is depicted with figures of Moses and left - right with old and new testament. The pulpit basket (1782) itself adorn figures of the four scribes. The church is equipped with five side altars. The cross altar is usually called Steinener Altar (to the right of the church portal), which is probably the most important in this pilgrimage church. This was worked in the 16th century red marble and light sandstone (also taken from the predecessor construction). The altar was commissioned by the then ruling Arnfels Wilhelm and Hans Christian Gera - at that time leading Protestants in Styria. With three masterfully crafted relief plates and allegorical figures, the altar is divided into three zones and three meters high. In summary, this church is a magnificent late Baroque monument. Both architecture and interior design date back to the time of the Reformation at the end of the 16th century, as well as to the subsequent Counter-Reformation. I would also like to point out the yearly in the pilgrimage church taking place Alten- und Krankenwallfahrt including Anointing the sick! In 2018, the bishop was present in person! Mostly this takes place on July 1st weekend (Saturday 15:00 clock). This year, 2019, the pilgrimage will take place on 6.7. celebrated at 15:00. Source: History of the market town Arnfels
