any time of the year it’s always great to visit the Palmenhouse. with it’s huge palm trees and great variety of other plants it feels like you have been teleported to a rain forest. nice place to relax.

The building itself is very unique and breathtaking. There are lots of spots for great photo shoots (in terms of architecture and flora). The collection itself is rich (worth mentioning are cycads, ferns and some very old palms), but the building is kind of small. It isn't a drawback though. Great place to chill.

The greenhouse was built by Ignaz Gridl and inaugurated by Franz Joseph I. in June 1882. A bomb attack on Schönbrunn Palace in February 1945. destroyed the glass of the greenhouse and many plants died. The renovated Palmenhaus was reopened in 1953. Today, about 4,500 plant species live inside.
