Quotation almost 10-fold exceeded - engine not assembled properly and not reliable! € 14,000 for a non-engine repair ... In 2011, I had a 3.5L engine of a 1939 Jaguar SS repaired by the company Aichwalder, because he had been a specialist in old engines. I have sent this 2 pcs engines with the order to determine the problems and to make a cost estimate, which he calculated with about 300 €. To date, everything was O.K. The first estimate was 1,500 €, which seemed very reasonable so I gave the order and gave the instruction to keep all the old parts, some time later reported Hr. Aichwalder with me and said he did not come out of it would be more like 3,000 ¬. I also gave my consent here. After a few months, I got a phone call in which he let me hear the engine continuously, then he announced that the repair costs suddenly amounted to 10,000 €. Some time later came a bill over almost 14,000 euros. Of course, I immediately complained, the opinion of Mr. Aichwalder: "It would cost," if I had known the Before, I would have looked around an altanative. That was not it yet, because the second engine which I sent him was suddenly lost (value about 10,000 €). Of course, I have installed the engine, but after 30 km was this defect. Judgment of another old-timer workshop (Lattner in Schlierbach - highly recommended!): For the cylinder head bolts were forgotten washers, so the cylinder head was not right on the block. During the disassembly it was also found that wrong pistons were installed (spherical rather than flat piston bottoms) because the compression was 1.5 times higher than intended for this engine. The repair cost me another 5,000 €. Finally, we ended up in court and since I had hardly anything in writing (my mistake and my bad luck), I was granted by Aichwalder only the € 5,000 repair costs. Conclusion: € 9,000 for a malfunctioning engine, cost me this "repair" only a total of € 24,000 including the lost or stolen second replacement engine, which you can not buy and a lot of time and nerves .... Thank you dear Mr. Aichwalder! What did I learn from this: Always keep everything in writing and agree ....
