Very friendly and cosy hotel. Spent the week after Christmas in this hotel. Nearly Best Ever experience in this hotel. Breakfast very good buffet style with everything freshly prepared. 4 course dinner with 3 options for main course (including Veggie) included in the Half Board was every day a feast! Very friendly personnel . Reception helped us arrange flowers and cake for a birthday party and everything was arranged in time. This is a great place to go! Nice indoor swimming pool with German don't jump police! We were with our 3 nephews who like to swim. they enjoyed the place as well. good food options for smaller children during dinner. Nice Wellness with good Sauna.
At first, a side note. I'm not an angry reviewer, just try to give my best feedback to help the place further and the people who want to eat here.
Secondly, I didn't feel like it was a 'crown' where we were eating. We were naming the place Alte Kranke (old crazy one), instead of Alte Krone (old crown). Not the best for a place to hear: my full review:
Me and my family came here to end our wintersport/holiday in style, because the dishes and quality looked great from outside.
We stepped in and thought that the place looked very good and professional (compared to other restaurants in Mittelberg).
We got a table and got a menu. While we noticed, that the employees really started to be unfriendly with other visitors. Because the places were just for 'residents of the hotel'. The waiter (who was probably new or didn't had a great day), asked my wife if she wanted to order. She said she was still thinking about it, and the waiter asked me instead... not very polite and I told him we were waiting for my wife.
After ordering our drinks, we ordered food and I told the same waiter that I wanted the burger of the house (Kroner Burger). My whole family got their food and I had to wait several minutes for my food, than the same waiter came in and told me he understood I ordered a 'Cordon Bleu'. I told him I didn't.
My whole family was finishing their food, and then I got mine. I asked the waiter if we would get a discount, which he didn't understand. I explained him in English and he said he didn't understand. I was about to let it slide, when his manager came in and told me he couldn't give me a discount, but could give me a free coffee. I explained that if the other waiter just said 'sorry' it wouldn't be necessary, but took the coffee because I was furious at this point. Later the waiter came in and made a stupid joke or small talk about cordon bleu, which I really couldn't handle.
I finished my food, which was good, not great, while the same waiter took away my wife's plate, while we were still eating! The waiter politely asked if I wanted my coffee and my family ordered a tea and a cola. At this point the waiter brought in a tea, coffee, cola and a cappuccino.
At this point I really thought I was in Comedy Capers or some kind of TV show. Because he made three (in my eyes) big errors. We told him we didn't order the cappuccino and if he could take it away.
We finished our drinks and asked for the bill, when my relative wanted to pay with a creditcard. The manager of the place brought in a machine and just walked away, we really had to operate the system ourselves.
Tl;dr: Food okay to good, service was really poor! I would advise you to go to another place with more friendly employees (there are plenty).
My advise to the owners or employees.
At first, let your waiters learn the manners of the job. If they start taking away your dishes before everyone is finished, you're unpolite. Further more, don't make stupid jokes or small talks. If a customer is mad, leave them alone.
Second, never be mad at customers for taking in a taken spot. Just ask them politely to sit elsewhere or place the reservation somewhere else. It wasn't that busy after all.
Third: if a customer drops a glass (which happened), don't walk away pretending you didn't see it. Instead walk over and clean up the mess or help them!
Fourth: let your employees say sorry to a customer which had to wait over 30 minutes for food!
Fifth: if a customer has a complaint, don't act like you didn't mess up and come up with a solution yourself.
Sixth: if a waiter makes a screwup, let another waiter take over a table. This isn't necessary, but the current waiter wasn't really helping us forward and made lousy jokes. There were 3 or 4 in total.
Seventh: don't let your customers operate the atm / pin machine themself. Instead take 10 seconds to help them and then go do other stuff.
Food is good, but service is very poor
It is a pity that one single person can bring the image of a place down. The person in charge Anette Dodier decided to charge a complete breakfast because coffee was ordered. Instead of charging the 2 cups of coffee she charged a complete €17 breakfast because we were in breakfast hours in her facility, absolute rip off. I also could not celebrate the birthday of my wife as planned because a little cake cannot be ordered less than one day in advance.. an extra pity. Despite this little stain the rest of the hotel was fine and the service was barely acceptable. I guess since the main season is over they do not care about clients anymore.
Very nice family hotel..
