Limberg Castle was once a castle of the noble family of the Metnitzer. They received it as a fief of the Habsburgs. The listed Limberg Castle was first mentioned in the 13th century, was a facility on the Koralpe to secure the transition to Carinthia and is located in the municipality of Wies. The weir was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century and came to the Counts of Saurau. It fell into disrepair in the 18th century and was restored and sold to the princes of and to Liechtenstein. In 1933 the Styrian youth welfare organization took over the castle and ran a holiday home. During the Second World War, National Socialist events took place in it. After the looting of titopartisans it came again to the Styrian youth welfare organization and the scouts as a rest home. Limberg Castle and its grounds were renovated in 1960 and listed in 1977. In the 1992/93 Yugoslavia it served as a refugee camp.
