I only had problems with AMEX: Once the credit card bill could not be collected due to an account changeover, the notification about this came 2 months later and horrendous interest on arrears was immediately due for the now 2 months late payment. The telephone support is extremely unfriendly and unprofessional, apparently primarily there to get rid of customers. I'm with VISA now, a much more friendly tone, you feel more like a customer there, at Amex more like an annoying supplicant.

Very, very bad dealing with customers. Since there is still no Apple Pay at AMEX Austria (although possible in other countries such as DE) and the acceptance points are no longer as promised, I was forced to cancel the credit card. Although I clearly requested a date on which the credit card would be finally canceled, I learned of the final cancellation via an unsubscribe email from the Rewards program. The hotline employee then told me that a letter went out the day after (never received to date). Why the customer is only informed after the card is no longer valid is a mystery to me. Since I did not receive any information, I could no longer redeem my remaining reward points. The first hotline employee said this is not a problem that will apply for another year, I should choose something and call it. Since I had already redeemed points months before, there were only enough points for vouchers (iTunes, for example). The second hotline employee then informed me that it is not possible to redeem vouchers if the card has already been canceled - you can only redeem non-cash rewards. The funny thing about it is that you can only stay until December 31st. Redeem rewards, after which they are no longer available.
