A beautiful statue and water theatre in the gardens.

If you’re around Maria-Theresien-Platz, between the Natural History Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, you’ll find a monument to Maria-Theresa at the centre of the plaza. On the same plaza, there are also four Triton and Naiad Fountains around the aforementioned monument at each quadrant of the plaza. As the name suggests, the fountains all depict scenes involving the Greek god Triton and a Naiad, a type of water spirit in Greek mythology. The fountains are worth a look if in the plaza or even just visiting the museums around the square, especially as it’s the main tourist circuit of Vienna.

The complex consists of four fountains. Each has its own composition. Tritonen- und Najadenbrunnen or the fountains "Triton and Nymphs" were created in the late 19th century based on ancient Greek mythology. As is known from mythology, newts are sea creatures, sons of the ancient Greek god, the messenger of the depths of Triton and nymphs. And here we have four masterpieces by three different authors: Anton Schmidgruber, Hugo Härdtl and Edmund Paul Andreas Hofmann von Aspernburg.
