Seidl's Kaffee und Kuchen

Coffee is really good. The guy in the shop was really friendly and not hesitate to answer our questions. I also saw one of the biggest German shepherd dog I've ever seen that morning, lovely.

Nice location but be warned, if your German is not up to scratch (as mine isn’t) then best pass on this one. I am first to accept that I am poor at being able to make myself understood but this was a strange experience. Being aware that we were very short on our German, we tried to establish if decaffeinated coffee and cappuccino were available and if we could have breakfast. We were very well-behaved - we didn’t send back the black caffeinated tea which arrived instead of decaf coffee. We didn’t send back the hot milk which arrived for the tea. We didn’t complain when the waiter brought us 4 jam breakfasts, before we thought we had even ordered any breakfast - all we did say was that, instead, we actually would like 2 cheese and ham breakfasts and 2 egg breakfasts. This did cause some irritation and 2 of the jam breakfasts got whisked away. Two cheese and ham breakfasts arrived, but the egg breakfasts never did. There were a lot of assumptions made here, some by us but mainly by the waiter; we thought that, because he seemed totally au fait with his English, we had no need to worry about being misunderstood - I’m sad that I don’t speak better German. But the waiter assumed that he already knew what we wanted but did not listen to us or question us. We did not feel able to correct him without causing upset and so we just finished up and left. But be aware - be clear about what you want!!

such a nice café and really nice waitresses! And by Hietzingen standards, quite innocent. 😉

I work in 13th district so I often go to Seidl for breakfast or just to have a coffee. I know the staff very well and they are very nice. Very many regulars are there. The food is also very good and cheap.
