Bridge in the castle park. The location is well chosen, it connects important places in the castle park. The peculiarity of the bridge are the statues that can be seen in the middle of both sides. The rest of the architecture is also very good, one can only criticize that the bridge is quite steep. Of course, the Gothic Bridge is not so exciting that you only visit the palace park because of it, but if you are already here, you should also stop by this bridge.

With a height of around 12 meters, the Gothic bridge is the largest and most imposing bridge in Laxenburg Palace Park. Already planned in 1798 for the "Rittergau" of the castle park, it was completed in 1810. Its bold pointed arch stands parallel to the rock arch of the neighboring grotto and thus symbolizes the work of art compared to the natural work. This architecture also makes it clear that the Gothic style is "in touch with nature" and that humans have to recognize nature as an exemplary artist. The reliefs on this bridge are the work of the sculptor Franz Kähsmann. Within sight of the bridge is the Rousseau hill planted with columnar poplars, an imitation of the "Île des peupliers" (island of the poplars) in the Ermenonville Palace Park near Paris. The great philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau found his final resting place on this island in 1778.
