St. Stephen's Cathedral is 107.2 meters long and 34.2 meters wide. It has four towers. The tallest of these is the south tower at 136.44 meters. The tower room, from which there is a gigantic view across Vienna, is reached via 343 steps. The interior of St. Stephen's Cathedral was changed again and again over the centuries, right through to the Baroque period.

Those stairs nearly killed me. They're incredibly steep, and really took it out of me to climb. However, was it worth climbing? Most definitely. We did it early in the morning and it was beautiful. You can really see the beauty of the tiled church roof from the top. It was 6 euro for an adult to climb the stairs.

6 euroes to get up with the narrowest circle stairs there are, really if u don't like narrow, small, unlighted places don't go there but if u like unexpected and funny staff then must go there. There are a lot of circled stairs and it seems like u are just going up and up without ever ending. On your way up there there are people coming down so they will politely stop and move back to a corner so that u can pass true, otherwise you couldn't and there are a lot of people and funny situations. Almost when on top there is a narrow hallway to the last stairs to top. That hallway is so narrow that two persons can barely walk by each other, instead one needs to stop and be very close to the wall. At top there is a great view of center when it's clear day, ours wasn't so much, but still worth of visiting, very unique experience.

It takes 343 steps winding round and round to walk all the way to the top of the stairs. Being in good shape helps. Knowing that there are drinks at a store at the top of the stairs also helps. The views are spectacular. As long as you don't over young children this is a must visit.

343 steps. It's tough enough - especially with 20+ teenage school kids running up the steps behind you :) the view is worth the effort. We visited midweek and off season. We had the place to ourselves.
