I went in looking for a new perfume today - I’ve been wearing the same scent for years and am ready for a change. The store is lovely - a small but dense treasure trove of a wonderful curation of high-end and niche brands. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to shop for perfume during Corona times. The owner informed me that I couldn’t sample the perfumes myself and would have to ask him whenever I wanted to try one. I appreciate this is frustrating for him as well as for the customer. By the time I got to the fifth perfume, he seemed so inconvenienced that I decided to leave. I was the only customer in there but I felt very unwelcome. I sympathise that business must be very difficult during these times and I went in specifically because I would rather support a small business than a large brand. However it seemed that he was only interested in me buying something and leaving than purchasing after browsing and discovering. When I left the atmosphere was very unpleasant and he said something that sounded hostile as I walked out. I probably caught the owner on a bad day and I would love to go back to buy a new perfume on a better day, but I wouldn’t try again after today’s experience.
