Liebenberg-Denkmal

I liked the Liebenberg-Denkmal monument in Vienna. The structure brightened up an otherwise ordinary urban landscape.

When passing by this imposing monunent some people may ask themselves what is this for ? Well, Johann Andreas von Liebenberg was once mayor of Vienna in the 1680s during some really hard times. He not only flighted against the Bubonic Plague, much more he is recognized for his organization of civil service during the Second Turkish siege in 1683.

Very good food and service by all staff.it was nice sitting out in the shade. Dessert was tremendous.

This monument stands in tribute to Johann Andreas von Liebenberg, an Austrian politician and Mayor of Vienna in 1680, supervising the defensive preparations during the Ottoman Invasion. The monument is in the shape of an obelisk on a stepped pedestal. The obelisk is topped with a gilded figure of Victoria. Around the pedestal are bronze sculptures of a life-sized lion, lying down with one paw over the broken sword and shield of an Ottoman infantry, and two bronze cherubs hold a gilt Liebenberg portrait medallion. On the steps at the back is a bronze cartouche with the double-headed eagle. An elaborate and good looking monument.
