From the parents' point of view: Two of our children successfully completed the BG / BORG St. Johann and were then pleased to find that the doors of the ETH in Zurich (mathematics) and the doors of the LMU in Munich (medicine) were open to them without any further entrance examination. That is absolutely great.
The St. Johann grammar school has the advantage that there are no school competitors in the region. As a result, teachers can probably ask a little more from the students in St. Johann in Tirol, which increases their performance and the school level.
As far as I can see, this also means that good and less good students sit together in one class in the country. Everyone has their own personal opportunity in the country. In urban high schools, one is more likely to be stigmatized by the school chosen.
