Café Jelinek is probably as clean as it was when it first opened in 1910. There is NO soap in the bathroom every other day and if you look behind the counter, you will probably see waiters picking cakes with their bare hands...Too bad really as the crowd is usually nice and the food (when not contaminated) pretty good.

So it is a nice little Viennese cafe. Staff is attentive and friendly, prices are slightly higher but still ok. Loads of hipsters - if this is your crowd. Ambiance is 50ies vintage. All in all.. it's ok.

Was taken here by a friend some years ago, who made me try the goulash. I've made a point of returning every time I've been to Vienna ever since. The place is utterly relaxing and - like the sign in the entrance area says - if you're in a hurry you're in the wrong place! Wonderful staff with a great sense of humour and also very helpful. Did I mention their cakes...?!
