I can tell this is one of the best sushi restaurant in Tasmania. Many sushi restaurants out there in Tas but, on my personal experiences, others were more likely trying to chase what it could be as sushi but not the real sushi. However, it was real one. Loved it.
Currently selling their sushi from an inauspicious trailer tucked behind a bank, the dubious setting of Masaaki's only adds to the feeling that you're getting something really special here. Like some kind of black market sushi, hidden away from the rest of the Sushi Trains of Australia.
One of the most genuine and hospitable people my partner and I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Not to mention the sushi, which is second to none and well worth the drive out of Hobart (or even a trip down to Tassie).
We come to Tassie just for his sushi.nHe is that good.
We were absolutely delighted to know that Masaaki had reopened his venue after so long. Albeit, the new restaurant is not yet open to the public, he has cleverly opened service via his Sushi Food Van on the site. His produce is locally sourced and the taste is exquisite. We often take a day trip from Hobart to the Huon Valley and call into Geeveston just to grab lunch.
