Giles Weather Station, Office

Well worth the trip out there. Enjoy the tour of the station, if available. LENNIE CAT CAGE was erected 30 years ago to keep the old grader from being vandalised. Also to commemorate Len Beadells teams efforts.

The staff were very informative and had plenty of time to explain all the aspects of the weather station.Highly recommend a visit. Morning balloon goes off at 8.45am central time.

Interesting place with some cool things to see. Well worth the stop. Australian history.

Stayed here for a few nights in 1988 with the crew and a few police doing their 3 day rounds. Was a fun time and educational. Closest thing to MASH I can imagine. I remember a clock that had GAFA ...Great Areas of F All. Lol.

The defunct and painted wind radar resides here. Did you know there is a measurement reading area built in behind the radar? It’s fitted with hand cranks to adjust the radar and is insulated to keep the sensors at the right temperature.
