Herring Island Sculpture Park

Herring Island is a very interesting place to visit. I never knew you could visit the island right in the middle of the Yarra River just down from Como House.

Herring Island is a lovely place to go for a short walk, have a picnic or barbeque and enjoy the gallery when its open. Take the 2 minute ferry journey across from Como Landing next to Kanteen cafe. On your return across the river the Kanteen Cafe has great coffee including breakfast and lunch options to suit everyone.

As the island can only be accessed by boat, the boat ramp is only run on Saturdays and Sundays and public holidays. So the park is inaccessible on the weekdays.

Contemporary Art Society host several exhibitions during the summer period. Take the punt over to the island. Find the sculptures nestled amongst the natural environment and visit the art gallery.

Interesting island. A number of sculptures hidden in the bush, a lovely picnic area, public toilets and an art gallery. Who would have thought this was hiding in the middle of the city! Awesome!!
