Sunday May 30th 2021...Was looking forward to seeing 'Mother of Pearl Church' after long drive from Broome, But access to Beagle Bay where Church is located is closed and doesn't look like opening anytime soon!
So glad we ventured into Beagle Bay... such a pretty church inside & out!
Loved it. The church is the most outstanding feature of this little community of approx 350 aboriginals. It was built by the missionaries in the 1800s and was taken over by the Catholic Church once the missionaries left. It remains an operational church. Inside the church is decorated with the beautiful local oyster shells. It must have taken a lot of hard work and dedication for all of that decoration to be completed. The church is well cared for and maintained. Beautiful!!
The inside of this beautiful church reveals the true spirit of love and faith of a community. The local treasures are infused in the floors and walls. Just love it.
Great church and wonderful history. Very unusual build.
