In Dec 2020 I called on Buik Motorworks to perform a PrePurchase Inspection on a 911 I was looking to buy in Adelaide from Melbourne. I was looking to buy this car sight unseen, using the PPI to gauge the condition of the car and decide whether or not to buy it. Initially I found the team to be very good to work with. Based on the findings I made an offer on the car and bought it. Buiks where happy to keep the car in their possesion until I could get it to Melbourne (COVID made that difficult). Once I got the car home into Melbourne traffic, I immediately found a serious issue with the gearbox – it was jumping out of second gear EVERY TIME you’d let the car coast in 2nd gear. It is a repeatable fault and occurs every time the car is driven.nnBuik Motorworks DID NOT find this issue on 2 test drives they performed on this car. Initially when I raised it with them them, Ben was happy to work with me and help to fix the issue (however we did not exactly agree on what they would do to assist me). Wind forward a week or so and I received an email from Buik Motorworks stating they do not ‘accept liability’ for the fault and would not be helping me as it did not jump out of gear on both occasions they drove the car. I’m now in Melbourne with a 996 that has a broken gearbox that needs a very expensive rebuild (could be in excess of $8000 dependent on what gears are damaged). I based my entire purchase of the car on the PPI performed by Buik Motorworks only to have been seriously let down. I would never have bought this car if I had known it had a serious mechanical fault.nnI paid and trusted Buik Motorworks to perform a full mechanical check of this car and they missed the biggest and most expensive fault it had.
