Civic Square Library

Borrowed a book on 25/07/19. The librarian had bad manners bordering on elitism and racism. When I was asked about the suburb I live in, I responded saying "hammond park" and was faced with a rude loud "Where the heck is that!" from the librarian. The tone in her voice made me feel shamed about where I live which is really the last thing I would want when visiting a library. The elitism and superiority that she was clearly exerting over me made me feel incredibly uncomfortable in front of my friend and the other people in the library. The same librarian snorted and chuckled when I asked for help with the new checkout machine which was rude and again, I felt shamed about not knowing how the system works. It would have been a pleasant experience without the overt racism that I experienced from the library staff. I believe that I was personally targeted due to my colour and/or status as I do not live in the “elite” suburb. If this is not a personal attack from your librarian, then they need to be coached on how to be more polite and professional as I am sure they're getting paid for their work. I have one more book on hold that is just now ready for pick up and I do not feel comfortable to head down to the library to pick it up as I do not wish to be shamed for what I am and things I don't know... It is 2019 not 1919 and shaming people for not knowing how to use a system or the suburb they live or their race is not acceptable anymore.

Nicest library ever

A cozy place to study. I've done a lot of work there. It may become a bit noisy after 15:00 weekdays when students are flushing in and doing their homework together. And you may not find a seat if you come bit late during the day. After all, I love this place. :)

I love this Library. I go there to study all the time and it is a lovely atmosphere. I love being able to get coffee to keep me going!
