Wonderful walk. Huts incredible. Rangers super helpful. Track quality excellent. A must do
A breathtaking view, very very long walk to reach The Blade.
Highly recommend and commend "Life's an Adventure - the pack free walking experience" company to guide you through this amazing part of Tasmania. What an experience !! Day one took us to Cape Raoul where we walked through the eucalypts to the plateau where we stopped for lunch to take in the view of the towering sea cliffs. Out further to the tip of the cape were spectacular views to Tasman And Bruny Islands and we caught sight of a seal colony at the base of Cape Raoul.
Overnight accommodation was at the wonderfully placed Stewart's Bay Lodge nestled amongst the trees not far from Port Arthur, where we were treated with a gourmet dinner at the restaurant (including wine).
Day two saw us head for Waterfall Bay ( named after the 200meter waterfall that plunges into the sea) where we trekked to Fortescue Bay through the rainforest and undulating coastal topography. A 17km hike through various coastal habitats with gorgeous glimpses of the impressive geographical features and rocky outcrops. The walk ends at Fortescue Bay - a white sand, pristine inlet with a plethora of wildlife to encounter. The day ended with a sumptuous meal at the Stewart's Bay Lodge restaurant and a well earned spa in our lodge room.
Day three - relaxed start after a hearty breakfast and then a visit to Remarkable Cave. We were then treated to a helicopter flight over Cape Pillar and Tasman Island - Wow!!! To wind up the day a visit to the Lavender Farm for a wander through the fields and witness nature at its prettiest. After a sit down lunch we embarked on the challenge of Cape Huay - a well maintained track with sandstone steps to make the access out to the third pillar easily accessible. After reaching the tip it was time to head back to Hobart with our tour group - from welcoming strangers to becoming new friends, we were dropped off at the airport for our flights home.
Life's an Adventure - yep it surely was.
More than just a Tasmania hiking trail: spectacular nature, passionate people, lovely stories, good atmosphere. Very well organised and managed, I loved the Three Capes Walk!
There are two ways of doing this walk - with guides and “lodge” accommodation ($$$$), or self-guided and in cabins ($$). We did the latter. Either way, it’s highly worthwhile.
A few pointers:
Tassie has stringent quarantine. Be careful about bringing food in from interstate coz it might be confiscated at the airport.
The cabins are advertised as four person, but in fact there’s a big ventilation gap between each pair of cabins, so they are really cabins of eight and you will hear another group’s conversation - and snores. Snoring has obviously been an issue coz they have earplugs on hand at each campsite.
Otherwise, 10/10 for conception and execution.
PS I only counted two capes - Pillar and Hauy.
