Shige Restaurant

An amazing experience. High quality ingredients and friendly service. Staff are knowledgeable and attentive.

I spent a lot of time in Japan, and Tokyo in particular, in my working life. Since arriving in Perth I’ve been looking for somewhere that is within reach of those experiences. Shige is the first place I’ve found that meets that brief. It’s hard for a chef to maintain the standards of one country when they live in another...where the standards are different. For all that I think chef has maintained the vibe of a Japan based Japanese restaurant without necessarily being locked into the theatre of publicly preparing dishes or the minutiae of presentation. In a nut shell, I really liked it. I had miso soup (sweet and delicious), yakitori chicken and salmon sashimi. The sashimi was high quality and delicious. The chicken was tasty and well seasoned. I would have liked to have chosen my sake from a row of large bottles and had the choice of a warm cup overflowing in a wooden box but it was OK that I didn’t. I’ll be going back to Shige

Customer and food service needs big improvement. We made changes to reservation 3 times, the first was 1 day prior to change number of ppl, then the second was timing and third was number of people.nnWe felt we notified in time as we understand limitations for small family restaurant, we would have preferred they cancelled out booking rather than accomodate, only to have owner berate us twice after seating us.nnThe first public dressing down was conducted by the young waitress, stating food will be late since we were late, she then came out again and mentioned dress code inappropriate, even though website does not mention anything about dress code.nnWhen we finished meal the owner then came out and gave us another dressing down. He mentioned he had to turn away other diners, but reality was there three other empty tables all around us. We would have been more than happy to have restaurant cancel booking as it was unpleasant and unnecessary. We spent $160 on meals, food was below average poor presentation and quality.Others may enjoy this place but i will never reccomend after this experience. Perth is a small place and news travel.

I absolutely loved and enjoyed the food here. The best sashimi you can ever taste in Perth. Looking forward to our next visit.
