I have been working with Grant for the last 5 months and been extremely happy with the service provided. Grant responds quickly to my texts or emails, and answers all of our questions in a helpful manner. I would highly recommend Grant to anyone seeking a reliable accountant.

I engaged Grant after getting some very poor tax advice from another accountant. Grant was professional and clearly knew the best way to structure my business finances to maximise my tax benefits. I appreciate all the work he has done for my business in the last 2 years. It has reduced my financial stress significantly knowing I have someone I trust taking care of my financial well being.

I was looking for a new accountant as my old accountant retired and contacted Grant early in the process.nThe first impression was good. BUT some months later, when it came to the actual work, my emails where not answered, even though I called many times, wrote several emails and asked when the work will be done. My BAS (not much work involved) was not prepared within 5 weeks of providing all information and documents. My request to change an entry on ASIC was not done after 4 months (!) of the original inquiry and several follow-up questions... I even ask if they are too busy to take me on as a new clients and was told, no all is fine – but it was not. What a disappointment. I felt the whole time ignored and that my business was not important. I can not understand how a new client could be treated like that, especially as a ‘good start’ is usually the foundation of a long-lasting business relationship.nI was patient for several weeks, hoping for the best and saying to myself ‘give them another chance’. But 1 week before the extended ATO deadline expired I finally took my husband’s advice and looked for another accountant, as I was not sure if anything would happen at McCarthy & Co.nInterestingly, after informing Grant of cancelling our new business partnership by email and writing this google review, my BAS was done and lodged within 1 h, and I got a phone call with an apology, providing some reasons for the delay and the urgent request to remove this review. Based on that I slightly change the review to clarify the situation.nIt might have been a successful relationship if Grant had communicated in a professional manner. However, based on my experience, I still would not recommend this company, even though I can not say much about their ability and knowledge in accounting, as they only did one BAS ‘after I left’.nn***********************************************nMy reply to the response from McCarthy & Co Accountant:nnTelling the truth has nothing to do with being unfair.nIt is correct that our BAS was lodged by your firm “on time and with no penalty”. BUT it was lodged AFTER several weeks of me asking your firm when it will be lodged, and only 1 week before the extended (!) ATO deadline, and most of all it was lodged 1 hour AFTER telling you and your company to CEASE all work. Out of my view, the BAS was only lodged as a direct result of me writing this review, and it was the reason for calling me directly afterwards, asking me to delete this review.nAlso, the BAS was lodged without my consent, and without giving me any opportunity to agree to the figures, which resulted in our company having to pay several 1,000 $ (!) more PAYG tax than we actually had to pay based on an incorrect estimated business income in the BAS.nYour company did NOT do any ASIC change for our business. I asked for it for months and nothing happened. That was done by our new accountant and we paid him for that.nIf you had done any work for our company BEFORE I told you to cease all work, we would have been happy to pay for your services.nMy old accountant recommended you and your firm as a new business partner and was at the end embarrassed about this recommendation when I told him what happened. He said he would never have lodge a BAS without having a client to review and sign it first, he thought you were a reliable and experienced accountant suitable for our company and if he had known what would happen, he had recommended someone else.nI completely understand that after writing such a review we are not an ideal client for your practice.nNevertheless, I stand to my review as it is genuine.

I can only presume that the reviews on here that are good are fakenWe engaged Grant in June 2019. We have had to chase and chase and chase. 2019. It’s now October 2020.nWe were told “nearly finished” when we chased it in November 2019.......nWe were told not to panic in December 2019 because we had until May 2020 to lodge it through an agent like him. We have only just lodged it. And it was a simple tax return. Got to pay $2000 for the pleasure toonNever calls back.nNever respondsnGives no guidance or informationnI got more information and guidance from “the admin” than him.nDon’t use COVID-19 as an excuse when this ball was rolling months and months prior.nI will be addressing the issues to the appropriate governing bodies. $2000 for this “service” Absolutely laughable.n***update*** They eventually sorted our tax return, not heard from them at all since submitting the forms to close the business so no idea what’s happening there. And as for not having us as a client.....you know it’s in my husbands name.nBe warned. Use these cowboys at your own risk. I’ve even had various members of their staff message me on Facebook following our Facebook review, telling me how awful the place is. True story....
