Cairns Airport International Terminal

Pretty quite at the moment

Starting to get dated compared to other similar sized international airports around the world.

Airport is boring after security in the international section as there is no shops.

Summary for if you don't want to read my rant of a review: Dated terminal, very few places to eat (even for a regional airport), and long wait times for the amount of flights it sees. Now if you have a lot of time to kill: I have a LOT to complain about the international terminal. I understand it's a regional airport but even for a small airport this terminal is awful. The terminal has normal airport stuff like a convenience store (expensive, but at least it's there), a currency exchange, as well as specialty shops for local and Australian souvenirs. The toilets are pretty clean too. That's all the good things I have to say. While the domestic terminal has been renovated recently and has an abundance of places to eat and shop, the international terminal is desolate and barren. There is a grand total of ONE cafe, which (thank goodness) serves OK food for the desperate traveller. You would think that a terminal that sees (on average) half a dozen flights a day wouldn't be busy, but you would be wrong. When departing, we had to wait 45 minutes in a line to check-in, because three flights were scheduled to leave within an hour of each other and there weren't enough staff to cope. Arriving back at the terminal after my holiday wasn't much better, having to wait in a similarly-long line to clear customs. While a much more minor concern, this terminal hasn't been renovated in a while, and it shows. The check-in lounge has carpeted flooring (not the best idea), and everything (from the colour, to the carpet pattern, to the murals) is dated-looking. Oh well, at least it was clean. Sorry if this is long or rant-like, I had to vent somehow.

Good airport to check into usually very fast. The food and drinks are quite expensive like most airports. Since there are only between 6 and 10 onternational flights a day its never over crowded
