Tunnels not open but had a great time exploring the artillery turrets

This is an excellent destination for anyone interested in the military history of Western Australia. It is continually being improved with funds from Lotteries West and other donors. There is lots to see and experience and the guides were very knowledgeable with a nice touch of humour. You have to be prepared to climb a number stairs and anyone who doesn't like enclosed spaces shouldn't try this.

Google map misleadingly directed me to buck hill estate, in fact the entrance door for public is from boundary rd on which there is a car park over there.

This was a wonderful tour of a very historic site. Set up during the early parts of WW2, this gun battery was designed to defend Perth in case of attack from the Japanese. The battery comprises a series of tunnels linking the main gun emplacements. The tour is very informative and the (volunteer) guide that we had had a very detailed knowledge of the site and a quirky sense of humour. There are a number of sets of narrow stairs to negotiate but we didn't find them all that difficult and nor did our 9 and 7 year old granddaughters that we had with us. In addition, some awesome views up and down the coast and out over the Indian Ocean. A must visit site!

Such a good tour! Interesting, in-depth, and so affordable. Great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon, and leave with more knowledge of Perth’s history.
