The Pale Public Library was founded in 1921 and then worked at the University of Sarajevo. The Pale Public Library is a historical follower of the National Library and Reading Room (NKiČ) founded on January 12, 1921 in a private building in Pale. By the decision of the Municipal Assembly of Pale in 1994, it was re-registered in the Public Institution National Library of Pale and as such it is located and performs its activities in the premises of the Cultural Center in Pale. The library was located in one wing of the Cooperative Home and had two rooms - one for storing books and the other which was used as a reading room. At that time, it had a starting fund of 320 books. Since it developed very successfully, gradually increasing the book fund, in 1978 it became part of the National University and moved to the House of Culture, having 16,500 books. Today, the National Library carries out its work as an integral unit of the Public Institution for Culture and Sports Pale . The library is located in the premises of the Center for Culture, at the address Srpskih ratnika 4. The Pale Public Library has 32,023 books in the Department of Fiction, 30,525 scientific books, and the Homeland Department has 1,498 books. The native department of the library is one of the best native departments in the Republic of Srpska.
