Necropolis of Boljuni stećak tombstones, two necropolises of stećak tombstones are 100 meters away. On some stećak tombstones there are motifs of horsemen with arrows hunting deer, swords, ornaments ... For archaeologists and lovers of cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a reason to visit and explore the necropolis of Boljuni stećak tombstones ... It is located in a beautiful location that provides " thick "shade in the hot summer days ....
A place that takes you back centuries. The necropolis contains over 250 stećak tombstones, which are in very good condition, many of them are richly decorated with motifs and some have inscriptions. If you are in Radimlja and have 2-3 hours of time, visit Boljuni! The last 3-4 km is a very narrow road, so keep that in mind.
The Boljuni necropolis is the largest necropolis of stećak tombstones in the Balkans. It is located about 12 km southwest / towards Neum / from Stolac. From the main road to Neum there is a mark towards the Necropolis of Boljuna stećak tombstones. The road is quite narrow, but it is paved and leads to stećak tombstones. The necropolis contains 274 stećaks in two locations. Most of the stećak tombstones, their decoration, is made by the master Grubač. The motifs on the stećak are a lion, a woman rocking a child in her arms, playing a car in which the leader rides a deer ... it is considered to be a stećak from the 1440s or 1460s.
A very significant necropolis of stećaks, with 269 stećak tombstones, of which 176 are chest-shaped, 78 plates, 12 gabled and 3 crosses. 92 stećaks have been decorated,
There is no accurate information, it is understood that the necropolis was built in the mid-14th century, and was buried there until the beginning of the 16th century. The Boljunian inscriptions with the Bosnian stećak tombstone are important historical sources for the cultural history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This necropolis is on the UNSECO World Heritage List, called Stećci - Medieval Tombstones.
A total of 30 sites with these medieval Bogomil monuments are listed, of which 22 are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, three in Serbia and Montenegro and two in Croatia. Of the 70,000 recorded stećak tombstones at 3,300 sites, there are about 60,000 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 4,400 in Croatia, about 3,500 in Montenegro and about 4,100 in Serbia.
