The construction of the Orthodox Church - the Church of St. Basil the Great - began in 1885 at the Varda site in Konjic, and the general public was informed about it in the Sarajevo newspaper. As there is no preserved accompanying documentation on the construction of this facility, it cannot be determined with certainty whether it was completely done according to the original project, or the ultimate reduction of its exterior decorative plastic is the result of limited material possibilities of investors. In its external forms, this building is extremely simplified and without decorative elements. It was completed on October 26, 1886. Unlike the exterior, the interior of the church was richly equipped, and its great value was the built-in iconostasis when in 1925 the carvings were made by equestrian masters, woodcarvers Sulejman Hadžizukić and Salko Alagić. The iconostasis was painted by Sreto Domić, a painter, in 1929, following the example of the Byzantine school. It is interesting to note that one of the icons contained a small curiosity. Namely, on it are Sts. Cyril and Methodius depicted in Franciscan habitats. Unfortunately, in the war years (1992-95) it was destroyed, as well as the church building and its interior. After 2000, the church was repaired, the base of the iconostasis was done, the steps for the gate and the fence on the gate were made, the church was raised, as well as the interior lighting. In November 2007, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared the Church of St. Basil the Great, with movable property - icons, a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In May 2008 the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared the Historic Site - Necropolis with Poljica Stećak tombstones, Veliko Jezero site - a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina ...
