During and after the end of the Defensive-Patriotic War, the population of Pale increased greatly, and almost doubled. After the end of the war, the reorganization of the faculty of the former Sarajevo University became a university center, where several thousand students from all Serbian countries study.
A large number of newcomers, refugees and displaced persons from the territory of the Federation of BiH and the Republic of Serbian Krajina, several thousand students studying in Pale, as well as the consequences of the fall of communism, ie the mass return of our people to the church, felt the need to Pale next to the Church of the Assumption. Our Lady, they get another Temple.
The idea of building a new temple on Pale originated during the war, and that idea was supported by the then leadership of the Republika Srpska, because Pale took over the function of the capital of the Republika Srpska during the war years.
A construction committee was established, but due to well-known political events after the end of the war, this idea was temporarily abandoned. The idea was re-initiated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Dabro-Bosnia, Mr. Nikolaj, with whose blessing the realization of the idea itself began.
The decision on the construction of the temple was made at the session of the Board of Directors of the Church Municipality of Pale, held on July 19, 2006.
It was agreed that the temple would be dedicated to the Council of the Holy Archangel Gabriel. The contract for the project was signed on October 21, 2007, and according to the project itself, since when it was not deviated, the dimensions of the temple are: 46.47 x 25.44 m; height of the main dome: 23.5 m, and height of the bell tower with a cross: 33.20 m.
On Saturday, July 26, His Eminence Bishop Gregory of Zahumlje-Herzegovina, Deputy Metropolitan Nikolaj of Dabro-Bosnia, served the Holy Hierarch's Liturgy in the Cathedral on Pale, which was also the first Liturgy in the newly built church, on the occasion of the patron saint of this church under construction. The construction of the temple was assisted by the top of the Republika Srpska, the president, the assembly and the government, as well as local self-government units, the city of East Sarajevo and the municipality of Pale.
