Sarajevo roses are memorials in memory of the citizens killed during the siege of Sarajevo. They were formed by the craters in the asphalt and sidewalks, created by the shelling of the city, filled with a mass of red paint after the war. They were symbolically called Sarajevo roses because they resembled a rose with torn petals, symbolizing the shed blood of innocent civilians.
Don't forget 1992-1995
This kind of remembrance has something special ... In many places in Sarajevo you will find these, again and again repaired, monuments that remind of civilian casualties by grenades (comparable to the so-called "stumbling blocks" in German cities).
