The current Orthodox church was built on the medieval church in 1864, dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God, and in 1903 it was noticed that the church was dedicated to the holy apostles Peter and Paul and that the people called it Petrovica. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was set on fire and significantly damaged. After that, due to atmospheric influences, the building was devastated. It was renovated in 2014.
According to the architectural features and the concept of spatial organization, the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Zaplanik belongs to the type of single-nave churches with a semicircular apse and a bell tower on the front. External dimensions are 12.15X6.30 m (length measured by the apse), and the height of the roof is about 4.0 m. Above the west wall of the church, the bell tower "on the front" with one opening for the bell is made of finely worked stone. The height of the bell tower is 7.35 m.
South of the Orthodox Church of Peter and Paul are the remains of a medieval church which some authors call the Catholic Church. After the earthquake of 1667, which destroyed Dubrovnik and its surroundings, the roof of the church was demolished and has not been repaired since. The external dimensions of the building are about 7.90X5.40 m (length measured by the apse). The walls of the church have been preserved to this day, and their thickness in some parts varies and is about 60 to 85 cm. The remains of the walls of the medieval church are 30 to 40 cm high. The church was single-nave with a semicircular apse.
The inner depth of the apse was about 150 cm. Remains of fresco-painted plaster were found in it.
In addition to the Orthodox Church dedicated to St. Peter and Paul in Zaplanik, there is an Orthodox cemetery (3,480 m2) with 15 old stone tombstones (crosses) from the 19th and 20th centuries ...
