“Any doubt about science, in something abstract, leads to progress. Either the doubt will be true, or it will prove worthless. Science is universal, mathematics is its language. Science does not know the nation, language, culture, race, religion or any other difference between people. Because of its abstractness, mathematics is universal in the sense that other areas of human thought are not. The connection between mathematics and other sciences has a long history. Each science in its own way requires the presence of mathematics as an inevitable factor in its success. Life is possible only because certain rules have been established in the world. Mathematics is a common language of all natural sciences, a language that is not objectionable. Science poses interesting research problems for mathematics by providing crucial data, while mathematics provides science with powerful methods for analyzing that data. The symbolic language of mathematics is especially important for the unequivocal expression of scientific ideas. It is important to point out that mathematics gives science grammar, ie. rules that strictly analyze scientific ideas and data. For example, the fifties of the 20th century, the linguist Noam Chomsky (eng. Noam Chomsky) used mathematics to "see" the invisible, abstract patterns that we recognize as grammatical sentences. Thus, from linguistics, as an undeveloped branch of anthropology, he has made advanced mathematical science that studies the methods and structures important to linguistics.

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is the highest scientific and teaching institution in the field of basic natural and mathematical sciences, whose beginnings date back to 1950, when the teaching and science departments of natural and mathematical sciences were part of the Faculty of Philosophy. Since 1960, the decision of the People's Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Official Gazette No. 50/60) Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has been separated from the frames of the Faculty of Philosophy and has become an independent scientific-educational institution that combines natural and mathematical sciences with scientific- teaching departments for: biology, physics, geography, chemistry and mathematics. Each teaching-scientific department represents a complete teaching and scientific unit, consisting of teaching-scientific chairs and scientific-research centers. So far, 6205 candidates have obtained a high school diploma at the Faculty, and a first degree diploma of 1074 students. At the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics he has mastered 445 magistrates, and the diploma of the doctor of biological, physical, geographical, chemical and mathematical sciences is 384 Ph.D.
