At the beginning of the last century, Pale was only one embryonic settlement, or more precisely a village, from which, under the influence of certain socio-historical circumstances, the city of Pale will gradually develop as the seat of the municipality of the same name in the Republika Srpska. This beautiful tourist place became known around the world in the last decade of the 20th century, when during the bloody civil war of 1992-1995, the Serbian people were forced to defend their basic human and national rights. Then, Pale became the temporary capital of Republika Srpska. Unfortunately, most of the information about Pale at that time was presented and presented by the world media in a biased, distorted and false way, so even today, many years after the end of the war, there is a need to break that infamous rumor. We do not go into who and for what interests it suited. We also do not want to elaborate more broadly on the causes of the bloody war, from which all parties to the conflict, even the wider international community, could draw many instructive conclusions (Historia est magistra vitae), but to review the origins and development of Pale and the municipality of Pale. The municipality of Pale covers an area of 493 km2. The seat of the municipality is in the city of the same name, which is located 14 km east of Sarajevo. The territory of the municipality is extremely mountainous, with an altitude of 500 - 2000 m. The town of Pale is located in a valley between the mountain massifs of Romania, Ravna planina and Jahorina, and with the coast covers an area of about 8.5 km2. According to estimates of migration trends and the results of previous censuses, there were 5,000 inhabitants in Pale in 1985, and 16,000 in the entire territory of the municipality. Pre-war demographic forecasts, based on projections of the spatial development plan, predicted that the city of Pale in 2000 would have 9,400 inhabitants. , and in 2015 14,500, while the population of the municipality in that period would increase to 28,000. Although spatial development was temporarily halted during and immediately after the 1992-1995 war, a large number of Serbs who fled from Sarajevo moved to the city and municipality of Pale, so the total population of the municipality, according to unofficial data, almost completely approached population scheduled for 2015. The predominant part of the territory of the municipality is land covered with forests (66%). Located at an altitude of 820 m, Pale has long been known as an air spa and a favorite picnic spot for its natural beauty, clean air, beautiful coniferous forests and mountain meadows. With excellent ski terrains on Jahorina and the necessary infrastructure (ski slopes, cable cars, ski lifts and comfortable hotels), Pale is an important ski and winter tourist center ...
