The Church of the Holy Great Martyr George is located below the Gradina hill, about three kilometers away from Gorazde, downstream on the left side of the Drina.
It was built by Herceg od Sveti Sava - Grand Duke of Bosnia and Prince of Drina Stefan Vukčić Kosača in 1446. and dedicated it to St. George.
It was built in the Gothic style and differs from other temples from the Nemanjić period.
There are stećak tombstones within the building, while the north wall still rests on one of them.
Roman slabs that were built at the time of the construction of the Herceg Church itself speak of the fact that the construction was performed by coastal masters ...
The church that depicts the history of the Serbian people in the area of Gorazde. It has many things that prove how it has been preserved through the centuries.
A place of Orthodoxy, history and culture! Home of the first printing press in BiH, a temple that bears witness to culture, of preserving faith through all wars and always shining as a bastion of Orthodox life near the Drina.
Church dedicated to St. Đorđe, dates from the mid-15th century (1446) and is the endowment of Stefan Vukčić Kosača. In addition to the cathedral plaque, there is also a plaque on the church indicating that it was the same monastery in that period as the printing house of Božidar Ljubavić Goraždanin, the second printing house in the Balkans (the first being Cetinjska ie Crnojevic printing house) and the first in Bosnia and Herzegovina. To Herzegovina, who printed books on the then Cyrillic alphabet.
Church of St. Djordje is located on the left bank of the Drina river in Donja Sopotnica as the first building at the entrance to Novo Goražde from Gorazde. However, this sacral object is among the oldest Orthodox churches in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Eastern Bosnia. Namely, at the Church of St. Đorđe, today the Temple, was located 500 years ago the first printing house / 1519.g / in Yugoslavia and the other in the Balkans after the Cetinje printing house. This printer was launched by Bozidar Ëoraždanin and the first books were churches.
