Temple of St. George the Great Martyr in Bijeljina nave temple, measuring 26h13,70 meters. After the completion of the construction of the temple was consecrated Pajsije Bishop of Zvornik and Tuzla, from Vidin, 1869. Until recently was believed that the temple was consecrated in 1871, but the discovery of prote Paul Katanića, which were created at the beginning of XX century, there is new data that are credible in terms of the consecration of the temple.
According to records prote Paul Katanića, who in the early 20th century was arhijerejski governor Bijeljina, whose manuscript was found in 2008 in the bell tower of the temple of St. George, "Serbs in Bijeljina did not have a temple than the priests went to Brodac to serve. That is why in 1844 built the church, which was consecrated by Bishop Kiril of Zvornik. The day after the consecration Turks church collapsed, and then - grandfather prote Paul Katanića along with some Sekula Kadžabašom and Teodor Tomic - went Vizier in Travnik to complain. Vizier ordered that the Turks from Bijeljina give money to the church to rebuild and Serbs built a wooden church, which was used until 1869, when construction was completed and consecrated the present temple. The temple was then consecrated Bishop Pajsije, which in our diocese came from Vidin. "
The temple is vivid during the two months of 1948. Painted by the bohemian Charles Macek. During 2009 and 2010, the picturesque is the lower part of the apse of the altar, which had previously been covered with rugs, and part of the wall that was created walling southern gate to the nave of the church. This work was performed by academic painter Jovan Atanacković from Belgrade, trying thereby to adapt to the style in which they had formerly done the murals of the temple. The iconostasis was made of linden wood with affixed gilded relief carving. The icons on the iconostasis painted by the Bijeljina painter Milenko Atanacković, probably with his disciples, as is a noticeable difference in build quality icons.
Icons were made in the Baroque style ...
