It was built during the time of Austria, with the contributions of the Serbian people of Bileća and with the help of the Provincial Government in Sarajevo. At that time, the Serbs in Bileća were agreeing on a project to build a church. They agreed that it would be in the Byzantine style, but they were informed by the Government that the project would come from Vienna. The project came to be made in the Romanesque-Gothic style, as it was made. At that time, the Serbs were upset and rebelled that they did not want such a church, but despite all that, they received the answer: such or none. It was built with stone from the vicinity of Bileća. It was supposed to be consecrated at the Transfiguration, which was very pleasing to Austria, because it is related to the birth of Francis Joseph, which took place on August 18. What should the Serbs do, return the building material to the church, and say that it is not finished, in order to postpone the consecration. Later, according to the writings of Metropolitan Leontije Radulović, in 1896, on the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Sava Srpski. It is also known that around 1945, that is, after World War II, it was turned into a warehouse for several years and did not serve its purpose ...

Built in Romanesque-Gothic style during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, which is unusual for Orthodox churches. In 1896, the Holy Virgin was consecrated and consecrated to St. Save Serbian.
