For the salvation of the Serbian race, these fighters gave the most valuable thing they had - a life for freedom and the fatherland. Serbs should gather in such places, young generations should come here and these should be examples of bravery, heroism and a signpost of life. This cemetery was built in the image of the Serbian cemetery "Zejtinlik" in Thessaloniki, and with the blessing of the blessed Metropolitan Nikolaj. The cemetery is a historical memorial complex from the defense-patriotic war in the Republika Srpska from 1992 to 1995, and it was created by the exodus of Sarajevo Serbs after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement on November 21, 1995. The majority of Sarajevo Serbs, who lost their dearest family members, decided to transfer the remains of the fallen fighters and bury them in Sokolac. In 1996, when the construction of the memorial complex began, 970 killed fighters from the Sarajevo-Romanija region, whose average age was 37, were buried. The two youngest victims, who were 15 years old each, were buried in the Military Memorial Cemetery "Mali Zejtinlik" in Sokolac, 36 families buried two sons, while four families buried three sons each. There are cases where a father and two sons are buried, one family a father, a mother and two sons, as well as a nine-year-old girl who was raped is also buried here. The final number of victims has not been determined yet ...
