The construction of the Stupska loop was started in the 1970s, and two years ago the second phase of construction began. Finally, the construction of a ramp from Rajlovac direction towards Mostar is nearing completion, which, almost four decades after, the construction of Stupska Loka was completed. Prior to the commencement of works, Stupska Loop had two roads with two lanes and through it the majority of transit traffic to the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina took place. With the completion of works, another viaduct was built, two traffic lanes from the direction of Briješće - Trnovo, and two lanes from the International Airport Sarajevo towards Briješće. With two existing ramps, two new ones were built: from the direction of the airport towards the city and from the direction of Rajlovac towards Ilidza. Also, pedestrian pathways were built, which additionally accelerated the traffic from the direction of the city towards Ilidza, but also increased the safety of all participants in the traffic, especially pedestrians. The length of the entire route is 3,860 meters, and the value of construction works is estimated at 30 million KM. The funds are secured with the loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The biggest problem when preparing for the works on Stupska Loop was the resolution of property-legal relations. Due to the fact that the loop is located in the narrower city area and due to inadequate law on expropriation, the cost of resolving property and legal relations amounted to close to 9 million KM, while all construction works cost close to 22 million KM. The total area of expropriation is 87,000 square meters. Due to the works on Stupska Loka, seven households and about ten smaller business facilities were moved during the expropriation process. The biggest problem was the construction of a ramp from the direction of Rajlovac towards Ilidza. The works were delayed due to unresolved property-legal relations, and during the construction it had to be removed the furniture salon. Prior to the completion of the ramp to Mostar, the traffic was temporarily directed through the street Hifzi Bjelevac. At the end of this ramp, the construction of Stupska Loka, one of the largest facilities of this type in BiH, was completed.
