Shailkupa Degree College

Shailkupa government college is an old and well known college in the Jhenidah district. It was established before the Liberation war in 1969. The first principle was Mr Amzad Hossain. In the very beginning, this college started its journey with a little space in Shailkupa bazar. There was only one office building of this college in Shailkupa bazar and now this building is known as Janata Bank Vaban. Then the classes were taken in a tin shed godown. After some days the college started its journey with a specific area of 16 acor flat land which was beside the Shailkupa Upojila . Sir Samsher Hossain, was the establisher and he also took the responsibility of principal. The college started its journey with 8 enlighted professors. Those professors names are written down: 1. Professor Forid Uddin of Bangla department. 2. Professor Rama Prasad day of English department. 3. Professor Abdul Rashiq of mathematics department. 4. Professor Abdul Rahim of chemistry department. 5. Professor omio Kumar Chakraborty of Biology department. 6. Professor Abdul Razzaq of history department. 7. Professor Abbas Uddin of political science department. 8. Professor Lakshmi Kanta Das of philosophy department. This college was Nationalised in 1993. Then its name become Shailkupa government degree college. Before it was known as "Shailkupa College". Now it has passed it 25 years of Nationalised and the college has a huge resources of natural and human. It has three storied building, one Mosque, a huge playground, a Sheed miner, a boy's hostel, a pond and a huge number of students. A gateway of the college is decorated with great design and elite proverb. "শেখার জন্য এসো সেবার জন্য বেরিয়ে যাও". In front of the college there has a big Sago tree and Blossom tree which are making beautiful and attractive view. the road of this college is also decorated with coconut tree which are standing the both sides of the road. There are almost 800 student in this college and more than 30 Elite teachers are providing knowledge and necessary educative help among the students. Every year more than 500 students admitted in the college for the intermediate education. College has a Shahid Minar which is situated for holding the memories of 52's Martyrs.
