IT WAS FOUNDED IN 1968, AT THAT TIME IT'S NAME WAS JHIKARGACHA COLLEGE. AFTER LIBERATION WAR IT WAS NAMED SHAHID MASHIUR RAHMAN DEGREE COLLEGE. SHAHID MASHIUR RAHMAN WAS AN M.P.. AND WAS KILLED BY THE PAKISTANI ARMY DURING LIBERATION WAR.

Now this days there are few college in the town. but it was the only one for the city.
