Railway operations started in Bangladesh during the British rule, in the 12th. In the nineteenth century, various railway companies in England began to introduce small railroad sections in different provinces of India. At first, railways were introduced for economic purposes only. Eastern Bengal Railway Company established the first railway in Bangladesh. In 1-4, a 5-kilometer-long metered gauge railway section was opened from Mymensingh to Jagannathganj Ghat. Later, the Bengal Railway was divided into two parts, one on the east side of the Jamuna river and the other on the west side. The length of the eastern side is 122 km and the length of the west side is 120 km.
