Rangamati district is the largest of the 64 districts of Bangladesh. Due to its natural beauty, this district is a land of beauty for us. We will find less people who do not know the beauty of it. Similarly, Langadu is a well-known and large upazila of this district. From 1979-2000, when there was a conspiracy to divide our hilly region through various evil forces and hill tribes. The then government set up army camps there to protect the sovereignty of the country. They needed to patrol a large village in Langadu upazila. At that time there were few Bengali speaking people in the hilly areas. At that time there was a family in the village where the army patrolled day and night, the head of that family was Md. Altaf Sarkar. While patrolling the army, they needed daily necessities. Then they told Md. Altaf Sarkar that you sit with a shop in this village. He gave a small shop of tea, biscuits, chocolates, breakfast in the morning and afternoon. There were no more shops in this village then. From then on, the armies met their needs there. The army named this shop Altaf Market. And he named this place Altaf Market so that he could easily recognize this village. This is how the village came to be known as Altaf Market. Now the year 2021. That village is not like before. In that village now Dhaka, Chittagong has got direct roads, schools, madrasas, many more business establishments have been established. Now the name of this village is pronounced in different parts of the country. Altaf Sarkar's family is now a very large and well-respected family in Langadu Upazila.
