Misc
Kotchandpur is an old city and famous area of Bangladesh. Kotchandpur city is presently located in Jhenaidah district of Khulna Division. Until the Jhenaidah district was established in the 5th, the town was under the greater Jessore district. It is a small town as well as thanas, municipalities and upazilas. There are three unions under this city. This city has a famous history of the Kopathaksha river, reminiscent of Michael Madhusudan Dutt. Once upon a time, the Coptaxah River came with big launches, thousands of boats, and even some ships. The merchants used to come here for business purposes. This area was especially famous for sugar, dates jaggery. It is heard locally that this area was once a landmark of a beautiful natural beauty filled with a banana garden. During the British rule, the memory of British rule is still bearing the great English residence which is now used as a school. Kotchandpur became known as Kolkata at the time of trade, commerce, rich in culture, good communication and close proximity to India.
First let us know about the naming of this city. Sardar Chand Khan came to this area during the reign of Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire. He along with his comrades settled on the banks of the river Kupa. The name of this area was first named after Chandpur. Gradually, Chandpur became a commercial hub of Bengal and people started coming here from abroad for the purpose of trade and commerce. The reputation of this trade center spread abroad in the country and the attention of the Mugs and Portuguese. Several times they attacked and looted here. Then there was the reign of King Jahangir. In 8, he sent a Subedar named Khan Chishti to the then Chandpur to suppress foreign robbers, including the Mag-Portuguese. Subedar Islam Khan built a wall here and built a court to prosecute the bandits. Before Chandpur, the word court was attached to the word court. From Kortchandpur, Kotchandpur has been refined a bit.
After Subedar Islam Khan died, Qasim Khan was appointed Subedar of Kotchandpur. Then in the middle of the nineteenth century, Kotchandpur was promoted to subdivision. The area remained as a subdivision until March 7th. But after that it was completely abolished and the court collapsed.
Kotchandpur, once famous for small Kolkata, was famous for Matgud. This jaggery was made from sugar and that sugar was reputed at home and abroad. Some of the old buildings still stand in memory of the sugar mill of that period. At the end of the eighteenth century, a European citizen, Mr. Baik founded a sugar mill in Kotchandpur. After that, more sugar was established here.
