When the Bangabandhu Bridge was opened, the Jamtail-Joydevpur line was constructed to connect Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and North and South Bengal directly to Dhaka. By 2003, the length of the railway was extended to 94 km from the bridge east to Joydebpur junction. At this time Mirzapur railway station was built as the station of this railway.
