The Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum formed a committee in the private sector in the 1990s to establish a university named after national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in Trishal. Dr. was the chairman of this committee. Ashraf Siddiqui, Vice President Principal Hamida Ali and Treasurer Badiuzzaman, Retired Director General, Bangladesh Postal Department. The Forum collects two types of donors for the purpose of establishing a university. 1. The financier, II. Landlord. Leading among the financiers was the then state minister for land Rashed Musharraf, a number of established businessmen, doctors and scholars. A project to establish the university was approved at the ECNEC meeting in February 2004. The then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia laid the foundation stone on March 1, 2005. Begum Khaleda Zia inaugurated the activities of the two faculties on the birthday of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on March 25, 2006 and the first batch of classes started on June 3, 2006. Professor. Mohammad Shamsur Rahman was the first Vice-Chancellor. In the first batch, 185 students were admitted in the Department of Bengali Language and Literature under the Faculty of Arts, Department of English Language and Literature, Department of Music and Computer Science and Engineering under the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
