Sport contributes to building body, mindfulness, discipline and leadership and character building. And it sometimes introduces a country or region to another country or region and develops a well-known and own entity with the country or region. Our present day Lakshmipur district is also known for playing football with Kolkata, Agartala and Dhaka, the oldest cities of Greater Bengal for hundreds of years. Famous and expensive players from the region used to come to play in the traditional and oldest model high school grounds of Laxmipur, also in the major club-sports organizations of those cities. Today's Laxmipur Adarsh Samad High School (then Model High School) ground was the lifeblood of football.
Raumyada Prasanna Das of Ramgati in the thirties, father-advocate Karuna Kant Das, was the best player in the Kolkata East Bengal team. At that time, Hyderabad Nizam team lost to Agartala Maharani team in a football tournament at Agartala ground. The queen was overjoyed and gave an elephant and a lovely tied stick to Raumyada Prasanna Das. The queen could be seen directly by showing this stick. He was also an associate of "Football Magician" Samad. So far, he has shown great sportsmanship by chewing nuts in different fields of the region.
In the thirties and forties, Farashganj in Laxmipur was a rich region in terms of education, culture and sports. A large part of the famous football players of Lakshmipur at that time were members of this club. Notable among them are Makhan Lal, Lakshan Chandra, Anil Chandra, Amiya Bhushan, Ajit Chandra, Mostafizur Rahman, Engineer Hasan and Ismail Mia. At that time Satish Patwari and Kala Mia alias Bara Kala from Ramganj displayed their best sportsmanship in the best football teams of Kolkata, Dhaka and Burma. A. Babu Parshvanath Saha (Teacher), Shahidullah Master, Abdul Hakim Ukil M. L. A and Kafil Uddin Chowdhury. In the fifties and sixties, a few more new footballers graced the Laxmipur ground. They are: three brothers Golam Mostafa, Abdur Rob (Patwari) and Abdul Gafur (Khoka Mia) and Parshwanath Saha, Jagadvish Saha Panchu and Dilip Saha, Shafiq Mia (one and a half hands), Bhulu Patwari, Babul, Abul Khair, Mofizur Rahman, Shamsul Haque, Hossain Ahmed, A. Latif (Neo Muslim), Lutful Haider Bhulu, Nurul Islam (Azub Chairman) Ali Ahmed of Raipur, Shahid Mia, Chayed (Charbangshi), Munshur Pandit, Munshur Jamadar, Yunus Chowdhury, Ashvek Ali, Bashir Ullah Master, Ramgati's Abul Khair and others. At that time, league tournaments were held in Laxmipur ground every season. Besides, many of these players have successfully participated in the Noakhali Football League.
When Laxmipur subdivision was upgraded in the late seventies, the first subdivision administrator held a tournament called 'Badre Alam Shield'. This tournament enlivens Laxmipur in a new way. At this time a sports organization called Jagarani Krirachakra was born in Laxmipur after Town Hall, Mohammedan, Abahani. In the eighties, Jagarani was the main agitating organization in the field of Lakshmipur as the lifeblood of the entire local players. It was upgraded to Laxmipur district in 1984. Mr. Golam Mostafa Mia was elected as the General Secretary of the District Sports Association during the Thana and Sub-Divisional period. The work of playing football in the national arena started with a new initiative. In 1984, 2 coaches were appointed and football training was arranged in Laxmipur. Laxmipur district team successfully participated in the Sher-e-Bangla Cup tournament and Ershad Cup youth football tournament in 1975. They defeated Khagrachhari at Cox's Bazar and advanced to the second round.
In 1987, under the supervision of Mr. Chir Ranjan Barua, Deputy Commissioner, Laxmipur, the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Tournament started. Following this, in 2009 Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner, Laxmipur and Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Tournament was held under the supervision of Laxmipur District Sports Association. The champions of the tournament are Mohammedan, Laxmipur
