Good place to say you've been. The neighborhoods' glory days are far in the rearview mirror. It's a tad sketchy but there is a heavy police presence. During the day you're probably fine. At night you'd better avoid or be with a local who knows where they're going. The buildings and neighborhood have flavor. A good place to have a drink and imagine the past.

To be honest is a nice place for a couple of photos but take in mind that the most iconic one will require you to do a long line (especially girls). The best for me were the local artist and the details of the tiles. The surroundings aren't so nice or secure but within the stairs you'll always will find police.

The set of world-famous steps in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is artwork not just stairs. Take some time to enjoy the artwork and not just take a picture on the stairs, The art surrounding the stairs is beautiful and something you will never see again. When I went the area was very crowded so be patience and take your time. There are many people trying to take photos and look at the art. Everyone was very respectful of others. It's so much to look at at many different angles.nn*I went before COVID* Not sure what has changed since.

We visited in April 2019 & what strikes you as you approach the steps are the amazing murals leading up to the stairs. This just adds to the colours of the stairs itself which are fairly steep. Not easy to get a photo as everyone is trying to get one especially where the Rio name & Selaron name is. It is less busy further up. It's a fairly narrow corridor but very pretty. Quite a few vendors around selling souvenirs & food as well as a couple of smaller restaurants , an icon of Rio & a must visit. Some interesting history about the artist who created the stairs & the baths he filled to create part of the stairs.nColorful and AuthenticnA beautiful colorful Brazilian experience, these steps are full of locals and tourists. I highly recommend this as a daytime excursion... you'll experience Brazil's diversity and possibly hear many languages too!

This is one of the coolest places in Rio. It's so artistic! And its history is very interesting. If you're visiting this place, watch some videos or read something online about to first. It's very intriguing!
