Church of Our Lady of Lapa do Desterro

Not a long walk from Metropolitan Cathedral, nor the Lapa aqueducts, this Church constructed in the 18th century is arguably Rio's most artistic.Featuring towers from the outside and extensive tiling within, do pay attention to religious artwork and artifacts including the stations of the cross.

It's easy to overlook this beautiful and historical church built on the XVIII century close to Selaron's steps and the famous Lapa aqueducts. It has two towers but one was never concluded and their tiles were placed by the end of the XIX century. It's as interesting on the inside as it is on the outside. Very beautiful architecture. This church was built over 300 years ago and still standing. For those who like catholic architecture, it's a must see!
